Areas of Practice

Small Business Owner

For the business owners, we strive to be a valuable resource throughout the entire process of owning a business. From formation to growth, implementing profit maximization and expense reduction techniques, to the eventual sale or succession planning of the business, we are there to provide peace of mind and help you rest at ease knowing that your business is in good hands now and into the future.

Piggybacking off of the above, we can assist small business owners with both formulating and adopting a forward looking tax strategy, as well as preparing annual tax returns for both personal (1040, 1041, 709) and businesses (1065, 1120, 1120S, 990).

Tax Planning and Filing

One of the biggest misconceptions with estate planning is that only the very wealthy need estate planning. While the very wealthy do require much more extensive of a plan, if you own any property, or if you have loved ones that depend on you, then you need estate planning. But alas, we recognize that it is a topic people struggle to talk about. For most clients, you personally get no benefit from having an estate plan, so it is easy to put off. But what you are doing is selflessly giving the gift of convenience to your family and loved ones by saving them immense time, headache and money. Ron focuses on his unique responsibility to ease these fears by helping you understand the ins and outs of the process, and by building a lasting relationship with each individual. Together, you will develop a plan that balances both your personal goals with your unique family dynamics, all while also considering what is the most tax advantageous, as these may not always be the same.

Estate Planning

The cost of long term nursing home care is a major concern of persons facing progressive illnesses like Alzheimer’s disease and victims of strokes and trauma. The cost of nursing care facilities ranges from $200 to $350 per day and these costs will increase with time and will quickly deplete the resources of all but the wealthy and the well prepared. It always depends on how far out in advance we can plan, but there are always strategies that can be implemented to help lessen the burden on loved ones.

Medicaid planning is an area where significant amounts of money can be saved. It is best done early, but important issues can be addressed even after the patient is institutionalized.

Elder Law and Medicaid Planning

Special needs are a huge challenge for the family, but there are few bigger rewards out there than seeing your special needs children succeed and make strives towards independence. We encourage a conservative approach which encourages independence before moving on to more drastic methods many others jump straight to. Starting with providing a Financial and Health Care Power of Attorney where the young adult isn’t stripped of any rights, but simply allows the parent to continue to monitor and step in when needed. Providing basic estate plans and financial planning and coaching is an important next step. Lastly, only when absolutely needed do we start to go down the path of Guardianship as it does strip the young adult of all of their opportunity at independence.

Another big consideration is the estate plan of the parents, and making sure it is structured in a way that does not leave any burden on their special needs child once you are no longer there to help, and also to make sure it is currently structured in a way that does not limit your child’s opportunity at governmental and private support.

Ideally, Probate is something we all want our loved ones to avoid and is something that can be inexpensively done with proper estate planning. But sometimes life gets in the way and probate becomes a necessary evil.

When a loved one has passed with probate assets, although unfortunately always a lengthy process, we strive to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible and that all questions are answered along the way.
